Film industry post COVID 19
Films are quite interesting topics for all of us. We all love to watch movies. Also, we all have endless curiosity about the film industry. Due to COVID, the whole entertainment industry is at a risk. Many people earn their livelihood from this industry. Movie actors, filmmakers, scriptwriters, everyone is stuck into the home due to lockdown. The shooting process of films, T.V serials, web shows is stopped since March. Films and televisions are integral parts of human life. So it is urgent to start the shooting process again. But every fall is followed by a new bloom. This crisis will improve the technical aspects of the film and create quality movies.
Entertainment industry gears up for the fresh start after this pandemic with new rules and in new forms- said Mr. Manojit Mitra, the eminent director, actor and writer who made film like Vidhan, Makeup te breakup etc. He has done many T.V serials and corporate films in Bengali and Hindi. Recently, we had an interview with this eminent personality where he was talking about the film industry in the post-pandemic situation. The interview was taken by Mr. Arijit Bhattacharyya, founder of Virtualinfocom, one of the oldest game development company in India. “We have to follow the guideline given by the government for shooting films and T.V serials. But guidelines are not enough, we have to maintain precautions individually. Maintain proper hygiene is the basic requirement to shoot in post-pandemic” quoted Mr. Mitra while talking about how to shoot in the post-pandemic situation.
“Each crew member must wear three layers of mask and gloves during the entire shoot. Two-meter distance between colleagues must be maintained. Any kind of physical contact should be avoided. Also, it will be better if leads can carry their own make-up, dresses and hairstyle equipment. Also, we should avoid the crew members over 60 years. Before shoot, it is important to check the temperature of the crew by thermometer gun” added Mr. Mitra. As we all know, outdoor shoots are not possible in post COVID. Outdoor shoots require a large number of people and technical equipment to shoot. It is impossible to maintain proper measures and provisions for these large arrangements. So, according to him, Chroma shoots, VR(virtual reality), multimedia will be used rapidly in films in the post-pandemic situation. Using graphics in the film will be essential. “ Entertainment industry runs through the money, other business generated. In this crisis situation, each and every industry including the entertainment industry are at risk. To avoid losses, people will hire established filmmakers. As a result, budding filmmakers will be affected most” quoted Mr. Mitra.
Mr. Mitra believes in good creative works with a small budget. But the work should be professional. The filmmaker should follow the basic protocol of film making. For him, the quantity of production may small, but the quality of the production should be good. Good movies depend on a good storyline that can connect people through emotions. According to this eminent filmmaker, this pandemic will give the chance to explore the emotions o different individuals. The movies in the post pandemic will reflect the crisis of pandemic. The filmmakers will think beyond the boundaries and content should be more life centric and creative. “A good film should consist of different kind of emotions. It should be the roller coaster ride on emotions. Always remember, that your film should have an optimistic point of view. Visualization of a filmmaker is the most important part of making a movie. Creativity and originality of a filmmaker can make a masterpiece. You may have to concise your budget but don’t compromise on the quality of the movie. Make your project professional otherwise, your unprofessional work will convey wrong messages to your fellow directors. Think from a business perspective also while making a movie” Mr. Mitra concluded.
Due to pandemic theatres are closed and the film doesn’t have any platform right now. OTT platforms are the only way now. Through these OTT platforms entertainment can reach to its audience. Budding film makers also need to concentrate on these OTT platforms now, where they can make money and also have a large audience. Society reflects through film and film is the most creative fraud in the world. Not only films, but also entertainment is the most important part of our life. This is a hard time for all of us. We all are depressed and frustrated. Death and poverty are at our doorsteps. We all are in a cloudy crystal with a gloomy future. In this situation, only the entertainment can give us relief and make us aware.
